The Narrow Gate Has No Queue
The narrow gate of Matthew 7 is followed immediately by the warning about many false prophets — the crowd problem is not outside the gate.
Matthew 7:13–14 is the narrow gate passage. Verse 15 immediately follows: 'Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing.' The structure places the false prophet warning inside the discourse addressed to those who have entered — or are about to enter — via the narrow way. The crowd problem in Matthew 7 is not the mass outside the gate; it is the false prophets who present themselves to those who have found it. Verses 21–23 continue: 'Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name?' These are people who called Jesus Lord. The warning sequence builds: narrow gate, then false prophets, then the self-deceived insiders.
